Jak is a former Navy SEAL attempting to secretly return to civilian life after a career in the military. For some reason he’s afraid to return to his hometown. He decides to hide in the comfort of Wichita, 30 miles away.

Karter is a gorgeous woman attempting to hide from everyone. She is covered in tattoos, rides a Harley, has a foul mouth, and works as an artist painting abstract art at home. She hates people, and rightfully so. Someone has turned her in to the state for being mentally insane, and although she’s not an addict, she must complete a 28 day drug treatment.

When they meet, it’s magic. The once in a lifetime explosion of emotion, infatuation, and passion we all dream of. Immediately, they both feel love.

Jak is older.

Karter is younger.

For fear of the other person not being able to accept the truth, they each choose to not disclose their age.

But sooner or later, all secrets come to the surface.

All secrets.
And when they do, everything changes.

Everything.

“I will have to say, it has been too long since I have read something and it had enough substance to keep me coming back to read more. It not only made me re-evaluate my life but it made me look at people in a whole new perspective. In addition I look at where my life is now in a whole new perspective. It seemed daunting, but now, it doesn’t seem really that bad. But this is probably my kick-start on my life. I just cannot express how moved I am. I have so many spoilers to speak of it is unbearable. This book was uplifting, encouraging and helped me have a better understanding of who I am and what I really can do with my life and for my daughter. I could already feel myself appreciating who I have in my life as I was reading this book.

I would love to say more but if I do I may ruin it for you. Now go give your life a kick-start and read this.

Thank you Scott for the most eye opening read I have yet to come across.”

BROKEN PEOPLE
I had a girlfriend, at 21, commit suicide while I was away. I have lived with that guilt forever. Several friends and family members have done the same thing. Throughout my life, I have met, talked to, and attempted to assist anyone that appeared to be broken, as long as they were willing to help themselves. I wrote this book to show how people feel. To allow the reader to feel, truly feel and associate with the characters. This is a book of feelings. Characters are depressed, angry, sad, elated, full of fear, confused, frustrated, hysterical, jealous, and lonely.

I stopped drinking a few decades ago. In my drinking, and in my not, I have found many other broken people. I frequent coffee houses the way that most everyone else frequents a bar. In these places, I meet more broken people. My exposure to these people made me want to write this book.

This book is fiction. It is a made-up story of five people. Five people that have different problems, different lies, and different issues. It’s a story about losing. Winning. And, ultimately, finding yourself. It is told through the voices of all five people. One of these people, the main character, is an overbearing asshole. He is vulgar, he is obese, and he is always talking thrash to whoever he encounters. He hates people. But he loves to help people that he wants to. He meets people. He encounters a lot of people he doesn’t help. But he encounters these people, and their lives are changed. His life and his mind, throughout this process, changes as well.

A suicidal girl is one. She is bulimic.

Another is somewhat of an intelligent dreamer. She is the heroine in the book.

A homosexual son of a former Marine war veteran. He can’t tell his dad he is gay.

And, the romantic. He comes from a home without a father. He has issues of his own, but, overall, he’s a great guy.

The reviews of this book are remarkable. Remarkable. Everyone agrees, this is a book that you must read. You must. It will, without a doubt, be one of the best reads you ever had. Additionally, it will have a greater, a deeper, and a longer lasting effect than anything else you’ve read or seen.

This is New Adult fiction like no other. If there was a book that you knew, literally knew…going into reading it, that it would make you cry, make you think, and make you reflect on yourself as a whole, would you read it? If this book had the most power of any other book that you have ever read. Any. If the book was grand enough to make you sit back and say, “Wow. I think I need to read that again…” and you immediately started over, would you read it?

Broken People, by Scott Hildreth is that book. You will, without a doubt see yourself in this book, in at least one of the characters, you will. It is an amazing piece, and has an amazing story to tell.

Read this book. You will not be anything but amazed.

From the chapter, Love that just is

Time passed. Britney filled my thoughts. Time, with her, passed at a pace much different than without her. We had been together for two months. When she was away, moments seemed like hours. Hours seemed like days, and days were like months. Together, a two hour evening easily passed in moments. I had not told her that I loved her. I had, through my actions, given every indication of my feelings for her. She had my love. I waited to see what she would do with it.

My mother’s love for my father began to make sense. Love that just was. “There’s love that’s developed,” she had told me. “And there’s love that just is.”
“Please explain,” I asked.
“Well, Marc, I believe that love can be developed. Two people meet. He thinks she is cute. She feels the same way. He asks her out on a date. She accepts. They go on a date, and nothing goes wrong. Because nothing goes wrong, when he asks again, she agrees. They go on a second date. And nothing goes wrong. And then, they go on a third date. And because nothing went wrong, they are now dating. Exclusive. Committed. And, time passes. And, to keep her convinced that he cares for her, and because his family encourages him, he buys her a ring. They are now engaged. And time passes. And they get married in June. Because that’s what everyone does. And then, because it’s what married people do, they have children. And now, they are a family. Because two people met, went on a date, and nothing went wrong.  That, Marc, is love that is developed.”
Then, she continued, “Then, there is love that just is. The love that can’t always be explained. The love that, according to those that have it, can’t ever be anything but what it is. Endless. Instead of sitting home and imagining the next ‘girls night out’, you sit at home and anxiously wait for him coming home from work. Because you can’t fathom spending an evening without him. That person doesn’t give you reason to live.
That person is your life. Love that just is.”
“And Marc, when they’re gone, like your father, nothing on or of this earth can ever replace them. Ever. You choke. You try to breathe. You suffer. And time passes. It’s difficult. They provide you with your breath, your heart resides in their chest, and theirs resides in you. They are your heartbeat. And, because your heart dies with them, and you remain, you suffer a life of loving yourself. With a heart inside of you that belongs to someone else, and is incapable of loving others. Because that heart, Marc, loves only you.” – Scott Hildreth, Broken People
