Jay Squires reviewed Broken People on Amazon last night. His review was outstanding…and a testament to the level of novel that this book is. Again, simply stated, if you’re reading a book, and it isn’t Broken People, you’re making a mistake.

REVIEW BY JAY SQUIRES

“Broken People” is simply the best mainstream novel I’ve read this year.  It is mainstream fiction at its finest.  The story-lines unfold from the viewpoints of multiple characters, each one being explored to the full extent of his or her depth of emotion, intelligence and brokenness while weaving the unique thread of that character into the warp and woof of the finished fabric.

Don’t expect the fabric to be beautiful, or even pleasing.

It is neither.

These are broken people.  And the threads of their lives are split and frayed, one moment dazzlingly brilliant, the next moment faded; threads combine: the weakest point of one with the borrowed strength of the other then wound together and pulled through.

FAT KID’s brokenness may repulse you.  Good!  That’s what he wants … while he exercises his own peculiar brand of genius.

MICHELLE, of Egyptian heritage, is broken by the collision of her independence against the crush of her family’s cultural inflexibility.

DAVID is broken by the conflict between his sexual identity problems and his retired marine father’s homophobia.

MARC & BRITNEY are two broken people made whole by their love–yet torn apart again by family and society.

Broken people, all, each touching the other. The threads of their lives are delicately and lovingly pulled through the loom by Scott Hildreth’s creative genius to produce the fabric of this marvelous novel.

A spot at the top of Amazon’s Bestseller list is reserved for “Broken People”!

Jay, thank you again. It pleases me to have someone of your level of experience pleased in my writing…

In one month, Broken People has received (33) five star reviews. (7) on Goodreads, and (26) on Amazon.

Broken People is, by far, one of the most uplifting, feel good, must read books of this year, if not of this decade.

This book was written for teens, new adults, and adults. I purposely wrote it to be able to be read, enjoyed, and applied to all that red it, regardless of age. Tremendous thought and work went into developing a novel that could be read, enjoyed, and absorbed by all that read it.

The reviews speak for themselves. In three weeks, quotes began to show up on Google from the book. Reviews from around the world (5 star). Praise from churches, organizations, veterans, teens,…

While you’re able, get a copy this afternoon for $0.99, I will raise the price to $5.99 as soon as 500 are downloaded. This may take a day. It may take two days.

If the free weekend is an indication, it may take a few hours.

I have already adjusted the price on Amazon to 99 cents, as soon as Amazon updates, be ready and get your copy while you can….

New Adult fiction like no other. If there was a book that you knew, literally knew…going into reading it, that it would make you cry, make you think, and make you reflect on yourself as a whole, would you read it? If this book had the power of any other book that you have ever read. Any. If the book was grand enough to make you sit back and say, “Wow. I think I need to read that again…” and you immediately started over, would you read it?

Broken People, by Scott Hildreth is that book. You will, without a doubt see yourself in this book, you will. It is an amazing piece, and has an amazing story to tell.

Read this book. You will not be anything but amazed.

Broken People, by Scott Hildreth continues to get reviews that come in, at the rate of a few a day. They are all (5) star, except 3. Total, there are 32 five star reviews, and 3 (4) star.

Yesterdays review by 1Booklover was great. 5 stars. She stated that she was afraid that she couldn’t even do the book justice in her review. She stated that it was a “Must read” for parents and teens alike.

A must read. That, of course, means that it is their recommendation that you “must” read it.

This book was written with the intent of any age (above 14)  being able to read it and have it effect them. It actually crawls within you, and flows through your veins like an infection. The characters are all real, raw, and full of life. The book is written from the perspective of the five characters, individually, in first person. The story unfolds, and the each character’s life is somehow tied to the other. In the end, they are all tied together.

This book is similar to Thirteen Reasons Why meets The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Be an adult, or be a teen…or anything in between, you will leave this book a different person. A richer person. It will, at minimum, leave you thinking about who you are, and what got you to this point in life. Additionally, it will have you second guessing what it is that you intend to do with the rest of your life.

If you are a parent of a teenagers, or have children in high school, you must read this book. You must. It will change the way you look at them. When you’re done, have them read it.

You will be forever grateful you did.

Broken People received three more 5 star reviews on Amazon today. The people reviewing this book continue to repeat the same type(s) of things….”this book changed my life….changes my viewpoints..”

  • I will have to say, it has been too long since I have read something and it had enough substance to keep me coming back to read more. It not only made me re-evaluate my life but it made me look at people in a whole new perspective. In addition I look at where my life is now in a whole new perspective. It seemed daunting, but now, it doesn’t seem really that bad. But this is probably my kick-start on my life. I just cannot express how moved I am. I have so many spoilers to speak of it is unbearable. This book was uplifting, encouraging and helped me have a better understanding of who I am and what I really can do with my life and for my daughter. I could already feel myself appreciating who I have in my life as I was reading this book.
I would love to say more but if I do I may ruin it for you. Now go give your life a kick-start and read this.

Thank you Scott for the most eye opening read I have yet to come across. (Thetasteofink260, on Amazon)
  • This book is a must read! Broken People is the most thought provoking book I have ever read. It has opened my eyes to a new perspective on life. It covers many important subjects that everyone faces in their lives. I will be passing this book on to many of my friends and family! Thank you Scott!!!  (Andrea on Amazon)
  • You ever read something that really…REALLY makes you think about life, your actions, your reactions, your personal feelings, your view of others??  Oh? No? There have been a few for me….and this is one of them. This story blew me away. I mean….really toyed with my emotions, my thinking, and honestly made my heart hurt a bit.
5 people….5 broken people…..5 beautifully broken stories…Infinite messages….Many many emotions.  A heart wrenching story of broken souls finding broken souls. Broken souls mending broken souls.  Broken souls saving broken souls.
Life ain’t always beautiful…..Scott Hildreth’s debut definitely forces us as readers to face that fact and see the ugliness, the darker side of life’s dirty little secrets. He shows us that we are not alone in our fears, our insecurities…in a very raw and real way. You might not think of yourself broken, but everyone…in their own way…is somehow broken….if only a little bit.
I found myself relating to parts of this story’s messages. This book forced me to take a look at my scars and my fears. Forced me to consider others….and their scars. I am broken in my own ways….
Hildreth introduces us to “The Fat Kid”……He pads himself, uses vulgar language, acts like a snarky jerk at times….. all to shut people out. Why would someone want to get to know an obese, vulgar, insensitive human being? It’s his defense against life….against failure….against getting close….against hurt.
He takes us on his journey….and gives us his broken and scattered puzzle pieces. Although there are multiple points of view, for me the “Fat Kid” is the focal point of the story.  This is his life. This is his brilliant story of his road to redemption and forgiveness. This is him overcoming his incident.
My heart bled a little for each character. My compassion for their situation and their heart ache grew with each page I turned. Hildreth most definitely has an amazing sense of verbal prowess and an uncanny ability to tell each character’s heart breaking story in a brilliant light.
As a parent, this book was some what of a self-help inspirational piece of art. Although I am not a parent to teen….yet…God forbid my child have to go thru any of the pain depicted or face any of the same issues. I can’t 100% safe guard my child from all the pain or troubles in life, but I can damn well make sure that I am there every step of the way, helping walk them thru it when I can and holding their hand…..regardless is the situation. Full fledged support and  understanding.
I would without any reservations recommend everyone to read this amazing story. Without a doubt….this will be a life changing book for many.

Broken People, by Scott Hildreth received Bhavya Kaushik’s highest review, 5 stars. To date, he has placed this high of a review on one book. Only one, until today. Broken People brought him to his knees. and at his own admittance, made him cry several times, and then built him back up.

A quote from his review:

The author is a brilliant storyteller, a wordsmith, and the way with which he has interwoven these people together is absolutely above my comprehension. I was able to relate with almost each and every character, but it was one specific character which reflected me entirely and I cried while reading all of its narration.

It is written with utmost thoughtfulness and will leave a deep impression on your mind after a read, because of its depth. It has some hauntingly beautiful descriptions and metaphors, and is filled with breathtaking quotes. There are numerous quotes in this book which broke my heart and created a space for them inside of my soul, but this one quote stood out for me from the entire text –

“I wondered what was behind the suicide. There is always a reason, something, an event that takes them over the edge, making the pain unbearable. Sometimes it may be a combination of items that the person just can’t comprehend living with, but it’s always one thing that takes them over the edge. It’s not that they actually want to die. Generally, they just want the pain to stop.”

Get your copy today, at amazon for $3.99. As Bhavya states, this book will change your life.
